What will drive
Recently, a team from the National University of Singapore developed "battery-free smart clothing". This smart clothing is powered by smartphones. Speaking of smart phones, they have a profound and huge impact on people's lives in today's society. If almost a handful of smart phones can be connected to smart clothing, it will further promote smart clothing into everyday life. That's a new way that go far away from the cooling fan jacket battery.
This battery-free garment contains a number of specially designed sensors connected by conductive threads sewn into the fabric. It works by placing a smartphone near a conductive coil on or near the garment and its NFC (Near Field Communication) signal activates the sensors, causing them to work and send data back to the phone. This data is then displayed on the device's screen.
In its current prototype form, the garment can support up to six sensors on a single smartphone. These sensors can monitor and read data on factors such as the user's running gait, body temperature and spinal posture, which are extremely important in both sports and medicine. Because "spinal posture is an integral part of developing good athletic posture, it is often overlooked because of the difficulty of collecting real-time data". so cooling fan jacket battery become a way far from it. But if "battery-free clothing" technology is developed and applied, for example, to sportswear, it can monitor the physical condition of athletes and training, helping athletes to push their limits while ensuring good health; it can not only assess performance, but also warn when the wearer is in danger of overheating; or to medical clothing, it can assess spinal diseases or continuously monitor patients' vital signs, which is of great benefit to medical health.
In "battery-free smart clothing", the smartphone and the smart clothing are used together, with the smartphone being the display for viewing the sensor data and also the power source for the clothing. So the question arises: "Battery-free smart clothing" will not make the smartphone power consumption is too much, resulting in the phone battery is not enough? If the smartphone battery is usually not enough, will people be willing to spend the battery on smart clothing? What about the cooling fan jacket battery?
It would be good if "battery-free smart clothes" really did not need batteries. But for now, the power problem is still a difficult technical problem to solve. However, as far as battery-free smart clothing is concerned, the technology has come a long way. I think the cooling fan jacket battery is still availabe for people's life. After all, smart phones have become indispensable items in our lives, and they are also equipped with rechargeable batteries, so the development and use of "battery-free smart clothing" is still a great possibility.
